Starbucks vs McDonalds

I heard this morning that these two are about to launch ad campaigns that are targeted at competing with one another. Does this make sense to anyone? I don't think that either target the same individual as the other. Can we say waste of advertising dollars?

I consider myself to be the average American woman, which is exactly who these two should be targeting for coffee sales because we represent the majority of the household decision making on this particular matter. So, when I want to treat myself to a Double Ristretto Venti Nonfat Organic Chocolate Brownie Frappuccino extra hot with foam and whipped cream upside down, double blended.... you think I'm going to hit up Mickey D's for it? No ma'am. That would be ignorant.

There is no comparison here. Sure, I would definitely not feel guilty getting a cup of regular coffee from McDonalds every single day because it is cheap and granted, the way things have been in the economy, I look for ways to cut costs just like the next person... and I can get 4 cups of McDonalds coffee for the price of one Starbucks blend. But, they are just not the same animal and whomever came up with the idea for a fast food place to go head to head with a coffee giant deserves to be demoted at the very least.

That's it for today. Thoughts?

I agree. While I try to save by sometimes stopping by McD's for a Vanilla Iced Coffee with cream ...the taste is nowhere near the taste of Starbucks. Essentially I am paying crap for crap. This is a dumb marketing move for sure.

I actually heard McD's first "volley" this morning while taking Lydia to school...

"I'm no longer a snob, thanks to McDonald's...I'm watching real tv...and I don't mean documentaries. I mean reality shows...as in REALITY."

Now, I will admit to watching a reality show every now and then just like the next girl, but honestly I would NEVER trust McD's with my coffee. Not gonna do it. Wouldn't be prudent.

Yea I am in LOVE with my bucks and will admit to cheating on it a couple of times with McD's but it is NO replacement, it is just Mcd's is closer to me

Oh and I will gladly go there with a coupon for a free coffee:) I actually have one sitting on my table from yesterday's paper-hey a girl needs her coffee

I agree it is pretty ignorant! Seriously there is no comparison. If someone is looking for a cheap cup of coffee they go to McDonald's but if they are looking for a good cup of coffee they go to Starbuck's.

What the hell?

Hello? McDonald's? You are a *fast food establishment*. You specialize in *cheeseburgers*. Instead of wasting your money on ad campaigns for coffee, why don't you spend it on training your dipshit teen employees so we can get everything we order in one stop. 'Kay?

Good post 'Fro. So happy you're back. :)

Save the coffee for cold weather AND the D.A.'s competition- my vote is for a Sonic Caramel Java Chiller - positively a treat especially now that another dirty d summer is headed our way!

OMG!!!! I'm ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!! Did your mom just say what I think she said? That is funny!

And yes, I TOTALLY agree with you. While I am not a "gotta have my coffee EVERY morning" kinda girl, I do like it pretty often. However, I generally do NOT feel inclined to run to McD's when I get that craving. Here in the "Dirty D", we have much better places than that - such as The Bean Counter (yummy!) and even Java City on campus.

In my mind, getting my coffee from McD's is the equivilent of getting my church clothes from Fred's. Don't get me wrong, I do shop at Fred's for some things but certainly NOT for my "good clothes".

I agree with what someone else said, McD's needs to train their lazy teenager workers to get your order RIGHT and for heaven's sake, serve me with a SMILE!!!!!!!!

I'm just glad I don't like coffee. It saves me a ton of money not having to go to SB.

We actually have a "McCafe" at our McDonalds...I guess we were in the "test" area. I haven't tried it...We go to McDonalds for cheap greasy food..not coffee...I think it's a really dumb idea.

I actually prefer McDonald's coffee to Starbucks and I've written about it. But Starbucks has a deeply loyal following that people also to for experience . . . McDonalds has cut into their share somewhat but I don't think it will continue much more deeply
